Tim Robbins has been cast as Senator Hammond, the father of villain Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), in the upcoming Green Lantern film from Warner Bros. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in New Orleans in March as it heads toward its June 17, 2011 release date.
More cryptic messages out of Marvel for its upcoming X-Men: Second Coming arc that arrives in March 2010.

What’s the best way to get featured in the Art Appreciation Moment of the Day spot? Do something related to Major Spoilers. Thomas Perkins did a bang up job, and earns our respect.
Bill Murray seems to have confirmed the rumor that he will play the spectral version of Dr. Peter Venkman in the planned Ghostbusters 3 flick.
I’ll come back in Ghostbusters III only if I get to be a ghost. I said to them, ‘I’ll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.’ So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film.
That also pretty much confirms that we’ll be seeing a whole new group of young’uns picking up the proton packs and ridding the city of specters. Murray was able to play the undead to great effect in Zombieland, so I expect his moments on the screen will be the funniest.

Oh, Snap! This week, the Major Spoilers Crew is taking a look at one of the most important Spider-Man stories published – The Night Gwen Stacy Died.
“The Night Gwen Stacy Died” is a story arc of the Marvel Comics comic book series The Amazing Spider-Man #121-122 (June-July 1973), that became a watershed event in the life of the superhero Spider-Man, one of popular culture’s most enduring and recognizable fictional characters. The two-issue story, written by Gerry Conway, with pencil art by Gil Kane and inking by John Romita Sr. and Tony Mortellaro, features Spider-Man’s fight against his archnemesis, the Green Goblin, who has abducted his girlfriend Gwen Stacy and lured him to the George Washington Bridge.

The Blu-ray edition of Halo Legends arrived at the Major Spoilers doorstep this past weekend, and since resident gamer Rodrigo was hanging around looking for something to do, we had him pop the movie in and file an early, spoiler-free, report.

I’m not a fan of remaking a movie, unless the next person up can do a better job than the one previously. John Carpenter did an excellent job back in 1982 with his remake of the 1951 “The Thing from Another World,” and it’s held up really well over the years. However, H’wood being H’wood, everything is going to be remade, and that includes The Thing.
Matthijs Van Jeijningen is directing the new movie, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton will star in the update.
Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage.
Those who have been following our Scott Pilgrim coverage already know that Winstead plays Romona Flowers in the upcoming Pilgrim flick.

News arrived last week that David Goyer exited FlashForward, the ABC series that has had some ups and downs these last couple of months. Upon his exit, Goyer hinted at bigger things to come for the writer in the form of Batman 3 that he is writing with Christopher Nolan’s brother, Jonah.
This is the first word that we have that Batman 3 is now ramping up, which means we’ll start seeing even more rumors over which villains will appear, and what celebrity will be cast. Wanna start the speculation early?

I was too stunned by the announcement last week of the casting of Stretch Armstrong and forgot to post news that the Battleship movie has been bumped up to May 25, 2012 from the originally scheduled July 29th date. Now, word from Universal has Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens filling the spot. The only other movie currently scheduled for that date is the 3D Smurfs movie that could be a real hit overseas.

The legend of Zorro continues to grow up and down the coast of California as story after story builds the vigilante up to that of legend. If readers didn’t know the true story, we’d think Zorro was some kind of supernatural being of the night. In truth, he’s just a guy out to bring the man down.
Or – “I Always Wondered How That All Ended…”

The early nineties were a good time to be a comics fan. New universes were popping up everywhere, new characters abounded, new settings and premises as far as the eye could see… These days, Barb Wire, The Strangers, Bloodfire and their ilk are most often found deep in the 3 For A Dollar bin, but even today, a few 90’s refugees have made their mark. Odds are most of y’all only know the Milestone Universe as ‘that place where Static started, before his cartoon,’ but we are all about to witness the latest chapter in the history of Milestone media… I sure hope it lives up to what came before.
It’s this one. Why? Because it’s funny.
The only thing that would have made it better is if they could have arranged for Conan to be in it.
Yeah, it’s not for real, but it is quite funny.
