Quest Announces Support for Microsoft Hyper-V, Added Application Visibility, and Increased Automation of Virtual Infrastructures with vFoglight
Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT) today announced that vFoglight®, its market-leading solution for virtualization monitoring and capacity planning, will support Microsoft Hyper-V and provide increased automation of virtual infrastructures with vFoglight 6.5, currently planned for release in Q4 2010. vFoglight now also supports Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange. Quest Announces Promotion to Increase Desktop Virtualization Adoption Using Quest and Microsoft Software
Today at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT) announced a limited time offer to drive desktop virtualization adoption. Through December 31, 2010, Microsoft is providing a 70% discount on its Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Standard Suite for up to 250 devices or 20% of a customer’s desktops covered by a Client Access License (CAL) or Enterprise Client Access License suite, whichever is less, through an Enterprise or Select, Open Value, or Campus and School family of agreements. Quest is offering a 50% discount, through December 31, 2010, on Quest® vWorkspace Enterprise licenses for up to 500 devices, providing virtual desktop management and delivery for VDI, Terminal Server/Session Host and App-V deployments.

Quest vWorkspace 7.1 Feature Spotlight: Deferred Authentication
You may or may not be aware that vWorkspace has a built in password reset service, this is an option when connecting via AppPortal or Web Access. The one challenge that we did have with the password reset feature was how to cater to those users that were connecting from devices that were not part of the AD or don’t have a web browser, that was a challenge up until the release of version 7.1 and the introduction of the deferred authentication feature. When enabling this feature we have the ability to deliver a desktop or application even if a users password has expired, needs changing or if the user has been locked out. This is achieved by the remote desktop or application session being instigated and the user changing/unlocking their account at the virtual desktop gina, where previously the connection would have been refused.

Much to like in Quest vWorkspace 7.1...
If you’ve had chance to watch the Quest vWorkspace 7.0 videos that myself and Matt Evans recorded a couple of months back, showcasing the installation and configuration of Quest vWorkspace with a Microsoft infrastructure, you’ll know that it’s a pretty compelling combination of technologies, that’s easy to configure, with powerful results. For those who haven’t seen them, Part 1 focused on enhancing the RDS Session Host environment, whilst Part 2, focused more specifically on Virtual Desktops. It was within the virtual desktop video, that you may have heard Matt mention improvements in future releases of vWorkspace that may help streamline the backend image provisioning on Hyper-V R2, by better utilising things like differencing disks.
