Citrix Consoles - Taskpad View
I recently read a great post from a fellow Citrite, Lee Collison about the multiple consoles for Citrix solutions. If you have not seen the post, check it out here. Essentially, he talks about the “fud” often created by competitors of Citrix surrounding the need for multiple consoles to administer a Citrix solution. However, as you will read in his post, simply leveraging the ability to add multiple consoles within an MMC console quickly circumvents this argument.

Java Runtime Installation Failure (Error 1330) Updated June 30, 2011 for JRE Update 26
When trying to install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 24 at a client site recently, I kept getting the error: Product: Java(TM) 6 Update 24 -- Error 1330.A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file M:\Documents and Settings\_cwebster\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_24\Data1.cab has an invalid digital signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt. Error 24581 was returned by WinVerifyTrust.

Just over 10 years ago, in the early days of Citrix MetaFrame, HideCalc was released as a free utility to allow an administrator to easily hide drives from a user’s view in Windows! This is useful if you need to lock down a machine to stop users from doing damage where they shouldn't be or saving data where they shouldn't be. Missing Citrix MetaFrame COM Server
I am picky when it comes to the Citrix XenApp servers on which I work. Warnings and Errors in the event logs just drive me up the wall. They are both to be banished if at all possible. A client site I was at recently fixing issues had hundreds of DCOM errors recorded in every XenApp server’s System event log.

Weird Errors and the Mysterious Root Cause
Over the past few months I have come across several seemingly unrelated issues that all had one root cause. There was not any typical correlation between the servers. Citrix software was everything from Presentation Server 4.0 to XenApp 5. Windows operating systems ranged from Windows 2000 Server up to Windows Server 2008.
