7. How to Install and Configure Microsoft Office 2000

If during the Analysis and Design phase of the project you decided upon you will be installing Microsoft Office then you will be required to use the MST file during installation. This will give you the ability to customize the features you will install and allow you to configure the Outlook profile with a user specific profile.

The Office installation will be broken down in to three sections.

1.      Install Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit.

2.      Create a custom Terminal Services Transform (MST) file.

3.      Execute the Microsoft Office 2000 installation program to install Microsoft Office 2000. (if you will be using Installation Manger you will then be required to add the package to the CMC.

 

In the following section we learn how to install and configure Microsoft Office on a MetaFrame XP server and how to deploy it via Installation Manager 2.2.

 

 

 


7. 1.        How to Install Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit

 

1.      Download and Install the Office 2000 Resource Kit to your MetaFrame server. The ORK can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#orktools.

2.      Install the Office 2000 Resource Kit by double-clicking on ORKTools.exe.

 

3.      Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click Next


4.      Select the installation location and Click Next.

 

5.      Click Install Now to accept the default setting and install the Office 2000 Resource Kit.

 

6.      Click OK.


7. 2.        How to Create a Custom Office 2000 Terminal Services Transform (MST) File

Now that you have installed the Office Resource Kit, you are ready to create a custom Terminal Server transform (MST) file with the Custom Installation Wizard for your environment. You will also be able to use this file for all your Office 2000 MetaFrame installations and for deploying via Installation Manger 2.2.

The following defines how to create and configure a custom Microsoft Office 2000 Terminal Services Transform file.

1.      Click Start click Programs click Microsoft Office Tools click Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit Tools click Custom Installation Wizard.

2.      Click Next.

3.      Click the Browse button.


4.      Browse to the Data1.MSI file located on the Microsoft Office 2000 CD and click OK then click Next.

 

5.      Select Open an existing MST file and click the Browse button to the TERMSRVR.MST file which is installed from the Office 2000 Resource Kit. Click Next.


6.      Select a location to save the new TERMSRVR.MST and click Next.

 

7.      Specify the Default installation path and the Organization name and click Next


8.      Click Next.

 

9.      Remove any application that you do not want to install and click Next.


10. Unselect Migrate user settings and click Next.

 

11. Click Next to continue.

 


12. Click Next.

 

13. Click Next.

 


14. Click Add.

 

15. Add c:\newprof.exe p c:\outlook.prf and Click OK.

 

Note: Newprof.exe is located on the Microsoft Office 2000 CD and outlook.prf is located on the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit CD. Copy both files to c:\ (you can change the location if desired)

Outlook.prf can also be downloaded: from: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm

 


16. Click Next.

 

The next few steps assume you have an Exchanger Server.

This will allow you to customize Microsoft Outlook to create a custom profile for the end-user upon login on the first time. This will prevent you from being required to manually create one.

 

17. Click General, enter %username% under Enter Profile Name and click Next.

 


18. Click Services List and Select Include Microsoft Exchange Server service.

 

19. Click Exchange Settings and enter %username% under The name of the users mailbox and the Exchange Server name. (This assumes the users mailbox is the same as username) Click Next.

 


20. Select Do not install Internet Explorer 5 and click Next.

 

21. Click Yes.

 


22. Modify OUTLOOKASDEFAULTAPP to set value to All and click Next.

 

23. Click Finish.

 

 


24. Click Exit.

 

 

 


7. 3.        How to Execute the Microsoft Office 2000 Installation Program

You are now ready to install the Office 2000 application.

To install Microsoft Office 2000 click Start Run type: setup.exe TRANSFORMS=C:\TERMSRVR.MST /qn+ Click OK.
