VMware has put a lot of effort into the vSphere 4.1 release, and with it, VMware made it official that vSphere 4.1 is the last release from the virtualization giant that will contain both the "classic" version of ESX that we've all become familiar with, and the newer, slimmed-down version, called ESXi. I have recently had a couple of acquaintances remark that they could not get communication between the XenDesktop DDC and VMWare VirtualCenter to work over HTTPS when using a Microsoft Enterprise CA. I had recently spent time on-site with a financial customer that required SSL communication and they had worked through it for over six weeks without any luck. Finally, they found an obscure reference for resetting the VirtualCenter password that fixed the issue. Today I just wanted blog this process so others did not have to spend six weeks to trying to figure this out too.

Cloud computing. Everyone is talking about it. You are either in it, scared of it, or trying to sell into it. Maybe your job depends on it or maybe you think it’s nothing but hype. But whatever IT is, it’s the latest fashion and we are all trying to find our size. There are about as many views of the cloud as there are people engaged in the technology, which can create a lot of ambiguity. In fact, a 2009 survey by Proofpoint Inc and Osterman Research revealed that about only half of IT managers felt like they actually understood what cloud computing meant.
